I developed and led Care for Care Homes during my time at the Scouts and in collboaration with The British Red Cross. This was one of the UK’s most powerful intergenerational kindness initiatives during the COVID‑19 lockdowns, securing national media coverage.
At a moment when care home residents were experiencing extreme loneliness and isolation, we supported volunteers to mobilise young people nationwide to take meaningful, social action.

Over 10,000 acts of kindness for people in Care Homes across the UK, powered by volunteers and young people.
National media coverage with The Guardian reporting that Scout groups were pairing with care homes across the UK, with managers describing the project as “a lifeline” during lockdown.
Many homes saw improved wellbeing, reduced isolation and renewed connection with the outside world, all driven by young people who chose to put others first.
Care for Care Homes became a defining example of how youth‑led action can transform lives. It showed national leaders that young people aren’t just willing to help - they’re capable of delivering large‑scale social impact when given the right platform.
